The EVFTA and its Implications to Vietnam

The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) was first ratified by the EU and then by the National Assembly of Vietnam, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. After the completed ratification, the EVFTA entered into force on 1st of August 2020. This historical agreement brings hope and new growth opportunities to both parties of the agreement. Once fully implemented it will contribute to economic recovery in a post-COVID world.

The EVFTA is a new generation FTA between Vietnam and the European Union. It is a comprehensive and high-quality agreement that ensures balanced benefits for both Vietnam and the EU, with consideration for the differences in development levels between the two sides.

In such a context, the EU Delegation to Vietnam organizes a series of three roundtables on economic and business development in the context of a post Covid-19 world and of the EVFTA. Economica Vietnam, under an agreement with GOPA Consultants, was entrusted to conceptualize and moderate the roundtables. For the purpose of the roundtables, Economica Vietnam was also commissioned to prepared three backround readers as below:

The background readers are prepared in both English and Vietnamese and are now downloadable from the Resource Centre of this website.
